Scotland Cricket Team

The Scotland Cricket is also known as Scotland national cricket team that represents Scotland in the game of cricket at an international level. Scotland was elected to associate membership of the ICC in the year 1994. This was done after having cut-off their cricketing links with England cricket team two years earlier. Though they qualified in the Cricket World Cup in the year 1999, they lost all their five matches. Added to this, the team was not qualified in the 2003 World Cup tournament.

In the year 2004, Scotland team competed in the inaugural ICC Intercontinental Cup. The team played with Ireland and then Netherlands. They progressed furthermore to semi-finals in Sharjah. They defeated Kenya in the semi-final. The progress was interrupted when they failed to pass the first round in the tournament held in the year 2005.

They got qualified for the semi-finals of the 2005 International Cricket Council Trophy in the month of July and year of 2005. Scotland gained One Day International status from January 1st, 2006 to the next ICC World Cup Qualifier in the coming year 2009. Scotland played their first ever One Day International outside of World Cups against Pakistan in the month of June, 2006.

The current status

In the month of March, 2006 Scotland embarks on a pre-season tour to Barbados. They won only one game out of six games against Barbados XI, but they build some credit with the style of playing the game. The success would go to Dougie Brown, a person who re-qualified to represent the Scotland team internationally in the year of 2004. Scotland also competed in the C & G Trophy in English Domestic Cricket in early year of 2006 English Cricket Season. They won three out of their nine games and this time they really performed better than expected. They finished eight in the Northern conference.

After 1999 World Cup, they played their first ODI against Pakistan in Edinburgh. They lost by five wickets without their key players like Navdeep Poonia and Dougie Brown. They finally succeed beating Netherlands in European Championships in August in a match, which was rain-shortened.

Throughout the year of 2006 and into early 2007, Scotland took part in the Intercontinental Cup. They defeated Namibia in May and tried to manage draw against Ireland in August. They also did draw game against UAE in the year 2007 and could not reach final. In the later part of 2006, they toured Bangladesh for their first ODI series outside UK and lost both the matches against Bangladesh.

In January 2007, they toured Kenya after the Intercontinental Cup. They first played in tri-series against Canada and Kenya in Mombassa and they finished well by standing in second position. In the last World Cup in recently, their touring to West Indies did not bring fruitful results as they lost all the matches and did not reach beyond their first round. In UK, they competed in the Friends Provident Trophy and won against Lancashire giving some relief to the great defeat in the World Cup.
